Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
This policy explains what Overlingo, an independent software project ("we"), collects when you use the Dubify app, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- Your videos never leave your device. Dubify extracts the audio track on your phone and uploads only that. We never receive, store or view your video.
- The audio we do receive is deleted as soon as your job finishes, and in any case within 24 hours.
- We do not run advertising, and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell your personal information.
1. What we collect
Account information
- Phone number, if you sign in with a verification code.
- Apple account information — your name and email address — if you use Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us these only on your first authorization, and you may choose to hide your email address.
- A display name and avatar, if you set them.
Your content
- Audio you upload for processing — the audio track extracted from your video, typically a few megabytes.
- Generated audio that the service produces for you, which you download to your device.
- Project data — your edit decisions: cut maps, subtitle text, voice and style settings. Project saves contain no media files and no file paths.
- Text you submit for translation or speech.
Usage and transaction records
- Your credit balance and a ledger of how credits were spent.
- Subscription status, and records needed to reconcile purchases made through Apple.
- Job records: what was requested, when, and whether it succeeded.
Technical and security data
- IP address and user agent, recorded when you sign in and on other account-security events. We use this to detect abuse and to investigate account compromises.
2. What we do not collect
- Your videos. Audio extraction happens on your device. The original video is never uploaded.
- Your face or voice samples as media. We do not build or keep a library of your source material.
- Advertising identifiers, or behavioural profiles. The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- Your contacts, photos, location or health data.
- Payment card details. Purchases on iOS are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your card.
3. How we use it
- To provide the service: run speech recognition, translation and speech synthesis, and deliver the result to you.
- To operate your account: sign you in, keep your projects, manage your credits and subscription.
- To keep the service safe: detect abuse, fraud and unauthorised access.
- To meet legal obligations, including accounting, tax and audit.
- To respond to you when you contact support.
We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers that help us run Dubify, and only what each one needs:
- Speech and language processing. To dub your audio, we send it to one or more of the following providers, which perform speech recognition, translation or speech synthesis on our behalf: Tencent Cloud, ByteDance (Volcengine), MiniMax, Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud (DashScope). Which provider is used depends on the language and voice you choose.
- Apple. Sign in with Apple, and in-app purchases. Apple's own privacy policy governs what Apple does with that data.
- Email delivery (Resend), for transactional messages such as sign-in links and receipts.
- Hosting. Our servers and database are hosted in Hong Kong.
We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public. If we are ever acquired or merge with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will tell you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. How long we keep it
- Uploaded audio is deleted as soon as your job reaches a final state — success, failure or cancellation.
- Generated audio is deleted once your device confirms it has saved the file, and in any case within 24 hours.
- Projects are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Account information is kept while your account is active.
- Transaction and usage records — credit ledger entries and job records — are retained after account deletion. We are required to keep accurate accounting records, and they are also what we would need to resolve a billing dispute. These records are not used for any other purpose.
6. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account from within the app, under account settings. This signs you out everywhere, revokes the access you granted us through Sign in with Apple, and stops any further processing of your content. The transaction records described above are retained.
- Delete individual projects from within the app at any time.
- Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or object to our processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these, contact us at support@overlingo.com.
7. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Our database is encrypted at rest. Uploaded and generated audio is held in private storage, and every download is checked against the job that owns it.
No system is perfectly secure. Because we do not retain your video or build a library of your source media, the data at risk in the event of an incident is limited.
8. Children
Dubify is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher). We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
We operate from Hong Kong, and the providers listed in section 4 are located in various countries. Your data may therefore be processed outside the country you live in. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make a material change we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we will update the date at the top of this page.
